Few may know that the art of cheese- making in Greece has its roots in a tradition established centuries ago. According to the Greek Mythology it was Aristaios, the son of Apollo and Cyrene, who was sent from the Gods in order to reveal the secrets of this much treasured technique for all men to know.

THowever history continues! A rich collection of reliable ancient references, Homer amongst them, confirm beyond doubt that, indeed, the oldest of Greek traditional brined cheese varieties, like the feta cheese, are widely known to the Greek world for almost six thousands of years.

For that reason, aiming to secure and uphold a tradition that has travelled through ages of history, so that it is not uprooted by the mass production methods of the modern food industry, the EU has taken action. Many of these traditional Greek varieties have earned protection under the European Union’s PDO (Protected Denomination of Origin) provisions.

The production of our cheese follows strictly the traditional technical standards, using pure, organic milk by animals that graze in the old- fashioned way in the Peloponnese and in the mountains of Aegean islands, such as Chios and Mytilene, also referred to as the island of Lesvos. Their diet consists solely of wild herbs and grasses, on which neither fertilizers, nor pesticides are allowed.
